Marlborough's new Youth and Community Centre gets a vote of thanks from Waitrose shoppers

Lisa Farrell accepting the cheque from Lisa Wakeham and Luke Stacey (Waitrose) with members of Marlborough Youth ClubLisa Farrell accepting the cheque from Lisa Wakeham and Luke Stacey (Waitrose) with members of Marlborough Youth ClubToday, March 23, Luke Stacey, Deputy Branch Manager and Lisa Wakeham, Community Champion from Waitrose, Marlborough presented a cheque for £287 to Marlborough Community and Youth Centre.  The money was raised from the Community Matters Green Token Scheme.

Accepting the cheque on behalf of the Youth Centre, Lisa Farrell, Deputy Mayor, said, “We are very grateful to receive the cheque which will be spent on some much needed sports and games equipment.  At the moment all we have is one football!”

“Now that the Youth Centre has been refurbished we now need to go to the next stage to make full use of the excellent facilities and the outside facilities such as the skate board park, and the children’s playground.  I would like to see community groups of all ages using the centre.”

A jumble sale was held to raise funds and more fund-raising events are planned. “What we really need,” says Lisa, “is enough money to fund a youth worker so we can open the centre for our young people more, particularly in the summer holidays.”

The centre is available to rent at only £10 per hour.  There is a hall, kitchen and coffee bar, music and meeting rooms, free wifi and a social area.  Click here for more information about using the Centre and to arrange a viewing please contact Sue Fry, Office Manager on 01672 512487.
