Marlborough's new Youth and Community CentreMarlborough's new Youth and Community CentreLast week's Area Board meeting in Marlborough was a meeting with a difference - it was held in the town’s new Community and Youth Centre just off St Margaret's Mead.

The meeting was preceded by a Youth Fair - a networking event where more than a dozen local groups were able to present a range of activities that they run across the area and look for volunteers.

Sarah Nicholls(l) and Hilda Moore(r) from Marlborough Tennis ClubSarah Nicholls(l) and Hilda Moore(r) from Marlborough Tennis ClubSome of the groups present bid for funding up to £500 towards projects and activities for young people, and successful were Marlborough Tennis Club (seeking funding to support there newly appointed Tennis development Co-ordinator, Becky Prince, and her free and part-funded sessions on offer to young people in the town looking to develop their tennis skills.

Other groups successful were Phoenix Brass Band (funding a (lighter) instrument for younger (smaller) players), ARK (Action for River Kennet) and Savernake Scouts.

In the Area Board Meeting proper that followed the networking session, Baydon Primary School was successful in gaining funding towards the creation of a new Library area within the school.

Other successful applicants were Minal Parish Council, securing funding for the creation of new car parking space at their new play area, the Kennet Valley Hall for funds to go towards the replacement of the front doors to the hall, and the local Alzheimer's Support Group to securing funds to go towards equipment for the Mildenhall Memory Group.
