Amanda Jones, together with son, Sam, are the proud owners of Marlborough Auction Rooms. Their first auction will be held this Wednesday, November 29 at Marlborough Golf Club.
“We are focusing on jewellery (silver, gold and costume) for this auction. As Christmas approaches it will be a good opportunity for people to purchase Christmas presents,” Amanda told marlborough.news. “We have items ranging from £30 to £10,000, something for everybody’s pocket, everybody’s taste.”
Lots can be viewed at Elm Tree Park, Manton(on the A4) on November 28 from 10 am to 4pm, online at www.marlboroughauctionrooms.org, or on November 29 at Marlborough Golf Club from 9.30 am. The sale begins at 11 am. Bids can be made on line before Wednesday at www.the-saleroom.com. There will be a live webcast at the auction.
Marlborough Auction Rooms is a real family affair. “All the family, together with our auctioneer, Gordon Brockman, are involved in some way,” says Amanda. “We know the area well. All three of my children attended St. John’s.”
Amanda hopes to hold auctions, initially every six weeks, but aims to hold them monthly in the long term. The second auction will be held towards the end of January and will be an antiques and collectables auction. There will be around 700 lots in this auction including, clocks, ceramics, glass ware, collector’s items and small pieces of furniture. There will also be top hats and a military section.
“If anyone wants to declutter or is thinking of downsizing please contact us to arrange a valuation. We also do probate valuations and clearance of estates. We offer the whole service from the initial valuation to writing the report and cleaning the house. We try to realize the most value for the benefit of the family and take away the worry.”
Marlborough Auction Rooms are also keen to be involved in the community. Auctioneer Gordon Brockman regularly runs charity auctions and is on the speaker circuit, giving talks to local interest groups.
For the foreseeable future the auctions will be held at Marlborough Golf Club. “It’s a beautiful venue and we have a very good relationship with the golf club,” says Amanda.
Perhaps the setting will attract TV programme advisors. “I would love to get on ‘Flog it’ or the ‘Antiques Roadtrip’,” said Amanda.
