Golf: Ben Amor’s triumph in international not enough for an England victory

Ben Amor, Marlborough Golf Club’s Junior Captain, was in fine form last week at Forest Pines in Lincolnshire for the 2013 Boys Home International.

Chosen to represent England for the first time, he was competing in a round-robin tournament for England Boys against Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

After his earlier success in taking the England under 18 Boys’ title, he continued his winning ways with victory in his three foursome matches followed by victories in all three of his singles matches.

Partnered with Harry Ellis of Meon Valley, they proved to be a formidable combination winning all three foursomes.

Ben’s sixth win of the tournament came in the singles on the final afternoon when he defeated Scotland’s George Burns 4 & 2. He was the only player to win all six matches.

The England players were aiming to take the trophy for the third successive year. However, despite Ben’s efforts it was not to be.

They lost out to Ireland who took the trophy for the first time since 2006.

It is proving to be a busy time for Ben. He now moves onto Royal Liverpool to take part in the Boys Amateur Championship next week. The Championship will feature a 252-strong field of the best boy golfers from around the world.
