Programme announced: a true international flavour for seventh season of recitals by young musicians at St Peter's Church

At right: Maria Inês CostaAt right: Maria Inês CostaThe programme has been announced for the seventh season of Marlborough's premiere recital series - the Brilliant Young International Musicians in St Peter's Church over seven Sundays from October 2018 to May 2019.
The season will open on Sunday, October 21 at 7.30pm with the young Portuguese pianist Maria Inês Costa who has been recommended by her Professor, Charles Owen.  He is a 'graduate' of recitals at St Peter's Church - he first played in Marlborough at the age of 19 in the 1980s and is now Professor of Piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a world-renowned concert pianist.

The season has been arranged by Dr Nick Maurice.  He told marlborough.news that he is very pleased with the mix of soloists and chamber groups: "Yet again we have a very international selection of young musicians - which is always exciting."

These recitals will continue to be given on behalf of St Peter's Trust and the charity Thriving Through Venture, which is working with young people in Wiltshire schools with particular vulnerabilities, getting them involved in projects in their communities and in The Gambia where they will be working for two weeks from August 8.

Dr Maurice says that throughout the six seasons of recitals, the young artists have expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to perform in front of a discerning audience in the intimate surroundings of St Peter's Church - so contributing to their professional development.   It is a perfect match that the recitals help raise funds to give local young people the chance to change and develop their lives with Thriving Through Venture

The seventh season will, once again, be sponsored by Marlborough resident and music lover, Elisabeth Clemency Cross.

The organisers - Dr Maurice and David du Croz for the St Peter and St Paul Charitable Trust - are concerned about the average age of audiences at classical concerts so will allow free entry to anyone of school age.  Brochures for the whole season can be collected from St Peter's Church.

Tickets stay at £10 per recital and will be available from the White Horse Bookshop or Sound Knowledge one month before each recital.

Details of the recitals and musicians will soon appear in the marlborough.news What's On calendar.  The dates of the recitals are as follows:

2018:   October 21 - Maria Inês Costa (piano) :  November 18 - Peter Harris (tenor) & Hamish Brown (piano)

2019:   January 27 - Dominic Degavino (piano) : February 24 - The Tee Trio : March 17 - Ryan Drucker (piano) : April 14 - Joana Ly (violin) & Martin André (piano) : May 26 - An-Ting Chang (piano).
