Coming soon: Marlborough Open Studios Preview Show – ‘quality, craftsmanship and beauty’
Marlborough Open Studios, now in its twenty third year, will be holding its Preview Show from June 7 to June 10 at The Mount House Gallery, Bath Road, from 10am to 5pm each day.
The preview show, curated by Mary Wilkinson, will give a taste of what will be on offer during the Open Studios art trail which takes place during the first four weekends in July. All the Open Studios’ artists will exhibit at least one piece in the Preview Show.
The many different genres of artistic expression such as landscape painting, jewellery, print making, photography, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, glass, textiles, mixed media will be represented.
The Preview Show also offers the opportunity to purchase artwork at lower than gallery and very affordable prices (£30-£5,000). The Open Studios Committee states that ‘all work is selected for quality, craftsmanship, price and above all, beauty.’
Entry to both the Preview Show and to the Open Studios is free of charge.
Paul Oakley, chairman of Marlborough Open Studios told marlborough.news: “This year we have 54 exhibiting artists and 22 associate artists, including a number who have joined for the first time, such as the sculpture artists Diccon Dadey and Tom Hiscocks.”
“The Open Studios art trail winds its way through 42 open studios across the beautiful countryside of the North Wessex Downs, from Calne in the west to Hungerford in the east. There are a variety of artists and it’s a very friendly tour.”
“I first discovered it as a visitor and what appealed to me was the friendliness and that there is no pressure to buy anything. What comes across is the artists’ enjoyment of their craft – they want to tell you about it.”
“It is also a great way to explore the countryside and some of the beautiful houses and gardens. You don’t have to be an art connoisseur to enjoy it.”
Open Studios are grateful to their sponsor David Dudley Jewellery and to Marlborough College Art Department for loaning the Mount House Gallery for the Preview Show.
