Civil engineering firm appoints Marlborough man to top job

Chris FaulknerChris FaulknerConstruction and civil engineering firm Stepnell has appointed Chris Faulkner to the role of commercial manager.

Chris, who lives in Marlborough, will be responsible for financial management of the company’s construction projects, putting together bids for new projects and negotiating contract terms while continuing the development of Wantage-based Stepnell’s business in the region.

He joins the £93 million turnover family-owned firm from international property and development manager Prime Development, where he was client representative on a mixed-use £600 million Peninsula Hotel scheme in London.

Prior to this, Chris worked as a national commercial manager for Hawkins Construction, in Auckland, New Zealand, and as part of global construction services company ISG’s Europe team.

“Stepnell is a dynamic and fast-growing construction business which has a great reputation for delivering high-quality projects,” says Chris.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of building on the company’s success, and developing a commercial strategy that will deliver the very best outcomes for Stepnell in the region.”

Current construction projects Stepnell is working on in the region include the £17 million Royal Star & Garter Homes’ new residential home for disabled ex-servicemen and women in High Wycombe; a £13 million new library scheme at St John’s College, Oxford; a £14 million extra care housing scheme for the London Borough of Hillingdon, and a £2.8 million boarding house, which will be the firm’s third consecutive project for Stowe School.

“We’re delighted to have someone of Chris’ calibre and industry experience managing the commercial side of our expanding Wantage office,” says Steve Burgess, Stepnell’s Wantage regional director.

“I’m delighted to welcome him to our Wantage team where I know he’ll add value to our fast-growing business.”
