Networking lunch will celebrate Marlborough’s status as a Fairtrade Town

Allison Burden with Nick Helps from Tesco and Stephen Fenna from WaitroseAllison Burden with Nick Helps from Tesco and Stephen Fenna from WaitroseMarlborough’s status as a Fairtrade town will be celebrated with a networking lunch for retailers later this month.

The event – which will be hosted by Tesco manager Nick Helps and the Fairtrade Steering Group – will be held at the town hall on Tuesday, November 15.

Mayor Noel Barrett-Morton will present awards to local businesses that helped Marlborough achieve Fairtrade Town Status earlier this year, and who choose to sell or serve Fairtrade products thus ensuring that the producer receives better prices, decent working conditions and fair terms of trade.

Mr Helps said: “Tesco Marlborough has seen sales of Faritrade goods increase since the town gained its status, as a result we have introduced more products, including cotton wool buds. We hope that other retailers will follow suit.”

“We are delighted to celebrate the support of local businesses and community groups,” added Allison Burden, who leads the Steering Committee.

“It is an opportunity for us to thank them on behalf of the many producers who benefit from the added value of Fairtrade in the developing world.”
